We are a group of five individuals, including a white, cisgender, lesbian woman, a white, nonbinary, queer person, a white, bisexual woman, and a trans, agender, queer SWANA person. Each of us comes from varying backgrounds and regions from across the United States, but despite our varied lived experiences there are many gaps in our understanding and perspectives. There are intersections that we cannot claim, and we have not set out to be spokespeople for everyone. The purpose of this selection tool is to guide librarians and community members toward resources in which they might find information or representations that they are looking for when considering expanding their collections or looking for new art to engage with.

Our list of chosen resources focuses on free resources about Fine Arts in the Midwestern United States, but, having found a need for resources in that region, we expanded it further to encompass the United States as a whole as well. While several of us are members of the Queer community, we are aware that there may be unfilled marginsblindspots within our list, potential unconscious biases, or resources we might have missed. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or resource recommendations that you felt we overlooked.
